Unlike current edge-mounted antennas, this layout is expected to reduce interference, enhance 5G mmWave and Wi-Fi 7 performance, and maintain strong connections in crowded or mobile conditions. Tesla Model 3 and Y ditch radar for cameras, lose ratings for advanced safety features

Image
Two key groups that offer automobile safety ratings are yanking their top endorsements from some Tesla vehicles because the company has stopped using radar on its safety systems. Consumer Reports pulled its “Top Pick” status for Tesla’s Model 3 and Y vehicles built after 27 April, while the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety plans to remove the vehicles’ “Top Safety Pick Plus” designation. The US government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is no longer giving the Models 3 and Y check marks on its website for having forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning and emergency brake support. That prompted the ratings groups’ actions. Both require electronic safety systems for the top safety designations. Consumer Reports says that removing radar and relying on cameras means the safety features may not be there when needed. A message was left Thursday seeking comment from Tesla, which has disbanded its media relations department. “If...

The two main types are Hodgkin lymphoma (generally starts in the blood and bone marrow) and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (generally starts in the lymph node and lymphatic tissue). McLaren’s first India showroom to open in Mumbai, Infinity Cars is exclusive importer

Image
Following years of speculation about its impending arrival, McLaren is finally set to make its India entry in the coming days. Interest levels spiked once again when McLaren recently added India under the markets listed on its online model configurator, and now, sources say McLaren is expected to make its India journey official in June. The British manufacturer has teamed up with dealer partner Infinity Cars – which also handles other premium vehicle brands including BMW, Mini, Porsche, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce and Ducati – to kick-start its India operations. Infinity Cars will be the exclusive importer of McLaren supercars and hypercars in India. The first McLaren outlet in the country will be opened in Mumbai, and it will share space with the existing Lamborghini showroom located in Prabhadevi. An official statement from McLaren announcing its India plans is still awaited. The company is yet responded to a query from Tech2 . At this time, it’s unclear which models from McLaren’s...

Facebook will no longer remove claims that COVID-19 is human-made or manufactured

Image
Facebook says it will no longer remove claims that COVID-19 is human-made or manufactured “in light of ongoing investigations into the origin of COVID-19 and in consultation with public health experts.” There is rising pressure worldwide to investigate the origins of the pandemic, including the possibility that it came from a lab. Since the pandemic began, Facebook has been changing what it allows on the topic and what it bans. In February, it announced a host of new claims it would be prohibiting -- including that COVID-19 was created in a Chinese lab. Other claims it added at the time included the false notion that vaccines are not effective or that they are toxic. Lisa Fazio, a professor of psychology at Vanderbilt University, said the reversal shows the difficulty of fact-checking in general, particularly with something unprecedented like the coronavirus, when experts can disagree and change their minds with new evidence. “It’s one reason that content moderation shouldn’t be sta...

Lights, camera, Action: Astronauts are on set and space Station may host a wave of TV shows and movies

Image
Who wants to be an astronaut? If the answer is you, there’s a reality TV show, appropriately titled “Who Wants to Be an Astronaut?”, that you ought to apply for. The Discovery Channel is seeking to cast about 10 would-be astronauts to compete during the series’ eight-episode run next year for a seat on a real-life trip to the International Space Station, followed by live coverage of the launch of the winner on a SpaceX rocket. “We’d like a diverse group of people that each have their own story, why they want to go to space, why they’re worthy of going to space, what their back story is,” said Jay Peterson, president of Boat Rocker Studios, Unscripted, one of the companies producing the show for Discovery. That person will not be the only amateur astronaut destined for the space station next year. So many tourism and entertainment efforts are preparing trips there that it could begin to look more like a soundstage for television shows and a hotel for the wealthy than an orbiting re...

Subnautica: Below Zero and beyond | A peek into Unknown Worlds as the studio turns 20 years old

Image
What’s the best way to play Subnautica: Below Zero ? “In a bathtub, or on a submarine,” says David Kalina, its project lead. *** Launching to rave reviews three years ago, San Francisco-based Unknown Worlds Entertainment’s open world survival and action-adventure game Subnautica redefined, in many ways, what has long been a very hit or miss setting for video games: Underwater. Atmospheric, frightening and visually spellbinding all at once, this was as unsettling an experience as it was unforgettable. But Subnautica was far from being the only game that sent players underwater. In fact, the likes of Bioshock , Abzû , Endless Ocean and Beyond Blue are just some of the games that have over the years made that environment their own. Meanwhile, such games as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (most notably),  Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and a slew of first-person shooters have greatly struggled with levels that send you through that terrain. Around a couple of weeks ago,...

Asus ROG Flow X13 GV301Q laptop review: Level-up your productivity game with 8-core AMD goodness

Image
While it might look like a gaming laptop, and even carry the ROG badge, the Flow X13 is anything but just a gaming laptop. Surprisingly, that’s a good thing. Powered by a powerful 8-core GPU and a passable-for-gaming Nvidia GTX 1650 Max-Q GPU, the Asus ROG Flow X13 will not hold up to any kind of heavy gaming load. Light games like The Division 2 and Horizon: Zero Dawn don’t even hit 60 fps at 1080p low settings. With more demanding titles like Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Metro Exodus , I saw frame-rates of 51 at medium settings and 38 at the normal preset respectively. These are not exciting figures, and unless you prefer to spend your time playing e-sports titles and older games like Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Overwatch and Rocket League , you’re not going to enjoy gaming on this machine. It’s patently obvious that gaming isn’t its forte, but taking a step back and looking past that ROG logo, however, you realise that what you’re actually looking at is one of the bes...

Two Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines found to be safe and effective against the virus

Image
Two vaccines made by China’s Sinopharm appear safe and effective against COVID-19, according to a study published in a medical journal. Scientists had been waiting for more details about the two vaccines, even though they already are being used in many countries, and one recently won the backing of the World Health Organization for emergency use. The report, published online in the Journal of the American Medical Association, concluded the two vaccines are about 73 percent and 78 percent effective, as Sinopharm has previously claimed. Researchers from Sinopharm and its local partners in the Middle East say the trial involved around 40,380 participants with the company’s two vaccines — one developed by the Wuhan Institute of Biological Products and the other by the Beijing Institute of Biological Products — and a placebo. The trial was carried out in four countries — Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Jordan. However, the study provided data for just Bahrain and the UAE....

Navigation error sends NASA's Ingenuity helicopter on a wild, confusing ride on Mars

Image
A navigation timing error sent NASA’s little Mars helicopter on a wild, lurching ride, its first major problem since it took to the Martian skies last month. The experimental helicopter, named Ingenuity, managed to land safely, officials at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory reported Thursday. The trouble cropped up about a minute into the helicopter’s sixth test flight last Saturday at an altitude of 10 meters. One of the numerous pictures taken by an on-board camera did not register in the navigation system, throwing the entire timing sequence off and confusing the craft about its location. Ingenuity began tilting back and forth as much as 20 degrees and suffered power consumption spikes, according to Havard Grip, the helicopter’s chief pilot. A built-in system to provide an extra margin for stability “came to the rescue,” he wrote in an online status update. The helicopter landed within 5 meters of its intended touchdown site. Ingenuity became the first aircraft to make a powered fli...
